[Lipa City, Batangas] – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) CALABARZON reported the December 2024 inflation in the region via hybrid press conference on 13 January 2025. Regional Director Charito C. Armonia announced that the prices of commodities in the region increased by 3.3 percent, higher than the 2.7 percent rise in prices observed in November.
Higher increase in prices for Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels commodity group averaging at 2.6 percent compared to the previous month’s rate of 1.2 percent contributed to the acceleration in the overall inflation rate (IR). In addition, Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages and Transport commodity groups contributed to the increase in overall IR, with recorded IR of 4.5 and 0.6 percent, respectively.
Likewise, higher increase in prices of commodities were recorded in all provinces and one highly urbanized city of the region except for the province of Batangas. Rizal posted the highest inflation of 5.1 percent, from 4.4 percent inflation in November 2024. Quezon posted an IR of 4.6 percent, from 3.6 percent in November; Laguna at 3.4 percent, from 2.8 percent in November; City of Lucena at 3.3 percent, from 3.0 percent in November; and Cavite at 1.8 percent, from 0.9 percent in November. On the other hand, Batangas retained its IR of 2.6 percent.
