Volume of Fisheries Production 
The total volume of fisheries production in Quezon province during the second quarter of 2023 was estimated at 11,110.00 metric tons. It decreased by 38.3 percent from the 18,018.25 metric tons reported in same quarter of 2022. This was brought about by the decrease in the output from the municipal (50.6%) and aquaculture (45.1%) sub-sectors.

Among the sub-sectors, production from aquaculture fisheries contributed the biggest share of 45.6 percent to the total fisheries production during the period. It was followed by the output from municipal fisheries with 28.6 percent. Meanwhile, commercial fisheries shared 25.8 percent.

Aquaculture 
Aquaculture fisheries production for the second quarter of 2023 decreased from 9,221.55 metric tons during the same period in 2022 to 5,066.65 metric tons. The decrease in the total aquaculture production was mainly attributed to milkfish (3,543.66 MT) harvested in brackishwater fishpond, followed by milkfish in marine cages (235.55 MT). Similarly, production of seaweeds declined by 101.46 MT.

Municipal Fisheries 
Municipal fisheries production was registered at 3,177.99 metric tons in the second quarter of 2023, lower by 3,253.91 MT compared to the same quarter’s output of 6,431.90 metric tons in the previous year. Of this total volume of production, marine municipal fisheries accounted for 99.9 percent while the rest were caught from inland bodies of water.

The volume of production for marine municipal fisheries resulted to a 50.6 percent decrease from 6,420.56 metric tons during the second quarter of 2022 to 3,174.03 metric tons in the same quarter of 2023. The leading species that contributed to the decrease in the volume of production comprising marine municipal fisheries were big-eyed tuna or tambakol/bariles (1,290.92 MT), roundscad or galunggong (554.12 MT),  frigate tuna or tulingan (459.08 MT), anchovies or dilis (424.78 MT) and  big-eyed scad or matangbaka (270.48 MT).

Inland fisheries production during the second quarter of 2023 was recorded at 3.95 metric tons, lower by 65.2 percent from its 2022 same quarter production of 11.34 metric tons. The top species contributing to the decline of the total volume of inland municipal fisheries production were tilapia (4.92 MT), mudcrab or alimango (1.80 MT), and mudfish or dalag (1.56 MT).

Commercial Fisheries 
Production for commercial fisheries was posted at 2,865.36 metric tons, an increment of 21.2 percent compared to the 2,364.80 metric tons reported in the same quarter in 2022.  The top five species that contributed most to the increase in the total production of this subsector were bali sardinella or tamban (245.67 MT), skipjack or gulyasan (194.03 MT), yellowfin tuna or tambakol/bariles (162.60 MT), indian mackerel or alumahan (70.29 MT) and big-eyed scad or matangbaka (51.99 MT).
