Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 682, signed by then President Corazon Aquino on 28 January 1991, celebration of Civil Registration Month is observed this February.   The celebration aims to remind the citizenry of their duty to register acts and events concerning status of persons and enhance nationwide awareness and appreciation of the legal, administrative and statistical values of civil registry documents.   This year’s theme is “Strengthening Civil Registration and Vital Statistics’ Digital Information: The Ways to Manage the New Normal” signifying the thrusts to continually carry out the provisions of Civil Registry Laws amidst the challenges of the global COVID-19 pandemic.  The Philippine Statistics Authority thru its nationwide offices intends to assure the general public of its commitment to deliver quality and efficient civil registration products and services using all available technological platforms.    According to PSA Region IV-A Regional Director, Charito C. Armonia, the “NEW NORMAL” indeed brought certain limitations from the usual face-to-face services and transactions however the PSA will not cease to perform its mandates in registering vital events with the help of partner agencies like the City/Municipal Civil Registry Offices.  People from all walks of life deserve to be served the most at this crucial time in order for them to have access to social services both from the government and private institutions.  Despite risks it is the right of every Filipino to know and to act maximizing the use of digital information to keep them informed and updated.   The PSA lined up different activities for the month-long Civil Registration Month celebration that includes awareness campaign thru Tri-Media and Social Media, coordination with stakeholders for support to promote the importance of Civil Registration, in-house and on-line seminars, distribution of Info materials among clients, hanging of streamers, digital poster making contests, Civil Registration quizzes and the likes.   Let us all be movers and promoters of the need to be registered and have a legal identity – No Excuses.    Happy Civil Registration Month!     (SGD) CHARITO C.
