PRICE SITUATION IN BATANGAS (2012=100) MARCH 2021 The data presented herein were based on the results of the 2012-based Consumer Price Index Survey for all income households in Batangas for the month of March 2021 YEAR-ON-YEAR The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is an indicator of the change in the average retail prices of goods and services commonly purchased by the households for their day-to-day consumption. ■ The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Batangas for March 2021 was posted at 129.0 index points. ■ It increased by 5.2 index points from last year’s figure of 123.3. ■ Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco showed and remained the highest index point change of 58.5 among the commodity groups. ■ Positive index point change also registered in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Housing, Clothing and Footwear; Furnishing Household and Equipment and Routine; Health, Transportation, Education and Restaurant and Miscellaneous Goods and Services. ■ On the other hand, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas Other fuels; and Recreation and Culture showed negative index point change while Communication remain constant. ■ Inflation Rate is the percentage increase or decrease in prices during a specific period usually a month or a year ■ The inflation rate in the province was recorded at 4.2 percent during the reference month. ■ It increase by 0.1 percentage points from the previous month’s figure and the rate at 4.2 percent. ■ In all commodity group, the highest are alcoholic beverages and tobacco, posted at a CPI of 357.7 during the month. ■ Restaurant and Miscellaneous Goods group (147.1 ) exhibited the second highest CPI, followed by the commodity group of Clothing and Footwear (143.4). ■ Communication remained and registered the lowest with a 103.3 during the month. MONTH ON MONTH FOOD AND NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ■ Prices of consumer items in the province recorded at 0.5 decrease from February to March 2021. ■ Compared to last month, March 2021 Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages recorded –2.5 index point change. ■ Corn Commodity posted the highest positive month on month index point change of 5.7 percent. It was followed by Oil and Fats (3.2 percent) and Other Cereals, flour, Cereal Preparation, Bread and Pasta (1.2 percent). ■ Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco had zero growth during the month. ■ In contrast the commodity of Meat, Fish, Sugar, Jam, Honey, Chocolate and Confectionaries showed negative index point change. ■ In comparison to the last month, March 2021 Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages item Vegetable showed –25.0 percent considered as the highest negative index point change. NON FOOD ■ Prices of consumer items in the province recorded at 0.5 decrease from February to March 2021. ■ Over all Non-food exhibited a positive 0.4 percent of index point change. ■ Items for Transport particular in item Operation of Personal Transport Equipment gain the highest positive index point change of 5.2 percent. ■ Meanwhile, index point change of Restaurant and Miscellaneous Goods and Services drop by 0.1 percent. ■ The rest of commodity group remains stable during the month. In March 2021, the Purchasing Power of Peso (PPP) in the province exhibited a lower PPP at 0.78. this means that the value of P 1.00 in 2012 is only worth P0.78 in March this year. The figure was same as that last month figure. Purchasing Power of Peso (PPP) is a measure of the real value the peso in a given period relative to a chosen reference period. It is computed by getting the reciprocal of the CPI and multiplying the result by 100. .
