SPECIAL RELEASE Construction Statistics from Approved Building Permits: Third Quarter 2019 (Preliminary Results) Date of Release: 29 January 2020 Reference No. 20R0410- The total number of constructions in the third quarter of 2019 reached 1,937, based on the preliminary results of construction statistics from approved building permits. This reflects decrease of (27.6) percent from the 2,677 constructions recorded during the same quarter of 2018. By type of construction, residential building reported growing less at 1,472 or 76.0 percent. Compared with the second quarter of 2018, this type of construction was (35.6) percent decrease this quarter. Majority of the residential constructions were single-type houses which accounted for 68.0 percent of the total residential constructions. Constructions of apartment/accessoria posted the least share at 0.52 percent. Meanwhile residential condominium and other residential reported 0 constructions for the quarter. The number of non-residential constructions at 305 accounted for 15.7 percent of the total, posting 45.0 percent increase from the 140 constructions recorded during the same period of 2018. Institutional type of constructions with a share of 260.0 percent dominated the number of constructions among the types of non-residential constructions. The number of additions to existing structures at 2 was decreased by (60.0) percent from the 5 recorded during the same quarter of 2018. Similarly, the combined number of alterations and repairs of existing structures at 158 declined by (19.8) percent from the 197 projects recorded in the same quarter of previous year. Total value of constructions, which was estimated at PHP4, 112,603 million, went down by (15.1) percent compared with the PHP 4,845,443 million registered during the third quarter of 2018. Residential building constructions valued at PHP 1,999,726 million, accounted for 48.6 percent of the total value. This represents a decrease of (32.2) percent from the 2,949,813 million value of construction in the third quarter of the previous year. Construction value of non-residential buildings, amounted to PHP2,074,636 million (50.4). This value reflects an increase of 64.0 percent from the PHP 1,264,921 million value of construction in the third quarter of the previous year. Furthermore, construction value for addition to existing structures which amounted to PHP 2, 127 or 0.10 percent of the total, dropped by 34.9 percent from PHP 3,269 thousand in the same period of 2018. Likewise, construction values for alteration and repair of existing structures at PHP 36,114 (1.7%) fell by 94.2 percent from the PHP 627,441 million construction value recorded in the same quarter of 2018. Residential building constructions for the third quarter of 2019 had an average cost of PHP 9,500 per square meter and an average floor area of 49.2 squaremeters per building. Among residential constructions, duplex/quadruplex recorded a decline with average cost of PHP 8,187 per square meter. This type of residential construction had an average floor area of 4.6 square meters per building. Non-residential building constructions had an average cost of PHP 9,552 per square meter and an average floor area 50.8 square meters per building. The average cost was 8.9 percent higher than the PHP 8,768 per square meter average cost posted in the same quarter of 2018. Institutional-type building construction reported the highest average cost of PHP 12,778 per square meter with an average floor area of 32.7 square meters per building. Agricultural-type building construction registered the lowest average cost of PHP 7,401 with an average floor area of 13.1 square meters per building.
