NUMBER OF APPROVED BUILDING PERMITS  
    A total of 4,303 private building constructions based on approved building permits were reported in the province for the year 2023. This number marked a decrease of 13.4 percent compared to the 4,969 approved  building permits recorded in 2022.

    Lucena City had the highest number of approved building permits with 869 or 20.2 percent followed by City of Tayabas with 611 or 14.2 percent. Lucban came next with 357 (8.3%) approved building permits followed by Candelaria with 245 or 5.7 percent.

    Residential building constructions recorded a total of 3,210 comprising 74.6 percent of the total approved building constructions in the province during the year. This reflected a decrease of 18.8 percent from the previous year’s 3,954 residential constructions.

    On the other hand, the total non-residential  building  constructions recorded;a share of 1,000 (23.2%), higher by 16.0 percent from the previous year’s 862 non-residential constructions.

    Approved applications for additions, with a  total of 93 decreased by 39.2 percent from  last  year’s figure of 153. Alterations and repairs of existing structures with a total of 180 decreased by 1.1 percent from 182 applications recorded on a year-on-year basis.

VALUE OF CONSTRUCTION    
    The total value of constructions during the reference year reached PhP 10.10 billion, indicating an increase of 1.0 percent from PhP 10.00 billion recorded in 2022. The average cost of construction in the province was computed at PhP 13,056 per square meter, excluding the value of alterations and repairs, demolitions and street furnitures.

    By type, residential constructions accounted for the biggest value with PhP 5.81 billion or 57.5 percent of the total value of constructions in the province. Of this amount, PhP 3.52 billion went to single type residential units accounting for 60.6 percent of the total value of residential construction. The average cost of residential construction per square meter was computed at PhP 12,485.

    Non-residential building constructions on the other hand, was valued at PhP 4.18 billion comprising 41.4 percent of the total value of constructions. The average cost of non-residential building constructions in the province was calculated at PhP 13,419 per square meter.

    Furthermore, the value of constructions classified as additions reached PhP 119.04 million or 1.2 percent.

RESIDENTIAL BUILDING CONSTRUCTIONS BY TYPE    
    Of the 3,210 new residential building constructions, 2,337 (72.8%) were single detached. The rest comprising 27.2 percent included duplex/quadruplex, apartments/accesoria, and other types of residential buildings.

NON-RESIDENTIAL BUILDING CONSTRUCTIONS BY TYPE  
    Most of the new non-residential building constructions in 2023 were commercial buildings with 670 or 67.0 percent of the total non-residential building constructions. Institutional building constructions shared 16.8 percent (168) followed by industrial buildings accounting for 10.2 percent (102). Agricultural buildings only comprised 6.0 percent (60).
