The data on the number of births, marriages, and deaths (vital events) presented in this regular monthly release were obtained from the vital events registered, either timely or belatedly, at the appropriate Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrar throughout the country and subsequently submitted for encoding to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The information presented includes provisional vital events that occurred from January to December 2022 based on data files received by the PSA - Civil Registration Service (CRS) from the PSOs and has undergone initial processing as of 28 February 2023. Thus, the figures presented herein are still preliminary and may differ from the final count. (1) The vital events of Filipinos abroad are not yet included in this release, but Filipinos whose usual residence is abroad and foreign nationals with vital events occurring in the country during the reference period were included in this report.     BIRTH STATISTICS   How many babies were born in a year? There were about 1.2 million registered live births in the Philippines in 2022 based on the preliminary results as of 28 February 2023. CALABARZON has the highest number of registered births among the 17 regions of the country. In CALABARZON, 195,795 babies were born from January to December 2022. On average, about 536 babies were born daily. This is equivalent to about 22 babies per hour.    Registered live births in 2022 decreased by 4.2 percent in CALABARZON The preliminary number of registered births as of 28 February 2023 in 2022 in CALABARZON reached 195,795. With the cut-off date by the end of February 2023 for processing the birth certificates, this is lower by -4.2 percent than the total registered births of 204,333 in the same period in 2021.   More males born than females   From January to December 2022 (preliminary results as of 28 February 2023), there were more males (102,502 or 52.4% share) born than females (93,293 or 47.6%) in CALABARZON, resulting in a sex ratio at birth of 110 males per 100 females.   Source: Philippine Statistics Authority, Civil Registration Service, Vital Statistics Division (Preliminary as of 28 February 2023) (p) - Preliminary   Most number of births registered in September   In 2022, the most number of births were registered in September at 20,734 or 10.6 percent share of the total registered births in CALABARZON. It was followed by the months of August with a 9.9 percent share and January and July with a 9.1 percent share. On the other hand, December had the least number of registered live births at 8,904 with a 4.5 percent share.   Source: Philippine Statistics Authority, Civil Registration Service, Vital Statistics Division (Preliminary as of 28 February 2023) (p) - Preliminary   The highest occurrence of births recorded in Cavite   Cavite recorded the highest number of birth occurrences in 2022 at 51,378 with a 26.2 percent share. This was followed by Rizal at 40,333 (20.6 percent) and Laguna at 38,772 (19.3 percent). The preliminary number of registered marriages in the country from January to December 2022 reached 401,388, higher by 12.5 percent than the total registered marriages of 356,839 in the same period in 2021.   In 2022, the country had about 1,100 registered marriages per day. This is equivalent to about 46 marriages per hour.   In CALABARZON, there were about 7 marriages per hour.     CALABARZON has the highest number of registered marriages in the country   Among the regions, CALABARZON recorded the highest number of registered marriages at approximately 15.2 percent (60,831) of the total for the period of January to December 2022. Region III came in second with 47,273 and NCR with 47,245. While BARMM had the lowest number of recorded marriages with only 1,628.   Source: Philippine Statistics Authority, Civil Registration Service, Vital Statistics Division (Preliminary as of 28 February 2023) (p) - Preliminary     Most couples marry in February in CALABARZON   The month with the highest number of registered marriages in CALABARZON in 2022 is February at 6,802, followed by March at 6,363 and June at 6,120. On the contrary, the month of August had the least number of registered marriages with only 2,870 registered marriages.   Source: Philippine Statistics Authority, Civil Registration Service, Vital Statistics Division (Preliminary as of 28 February 2023) (p) - Preliminary     Batangas registered the highest number of marriages among the provinces in CALABARZON in 2022   Among the provinces in CALABARZON, Batangas had the highest number of registered marriages in 2022 which accounted for 24.8 percent of the total. This was followed by Cavite with 24.7 percent then Laguna with 17.9 percent share. Quezon province had the lowest number of registered marriages with only a 15.0 percent share in the region.   Source: Philippine Statistics Authority, Civil Registration Service, Vital Statistics Division (Preliminary as of 28 February 2023) (p) - Preliminary     DEATH STATISTICS   How many deaths were registered in 2022?   In the Philippines, the preliminary number of registered deaths had a total of 622,509 in 2022. In CALABARZON, it reached 94,084, lower than the total registered deaths of 138,298 in 2021. This is about 11 deaths per hour.     For the period of January to December, preliminary results as of 28 February 2023 shows that CALABARZON recorded the highest number of registered deaths in 2022 during the month of January with 10,517 while the lowest number of registered deaths was recorded in December.   Source: Philippine Statistics Authority, Civil Registration Service, Vital Statistics Division (Preliminary as of 28 February 2023) (p) - Preliminary     The highest number of deaths occurred in Cavite   Meanwhile, the majority (25.3 percent) of the total registered deaths from January to December 2022 was recorded in the province of Cavite. This was followed by Rizal who shared 20.2 percent, while Batangas and Laguna contributed 19.7 percent and 19.5 percent respectively, and lastly, Quezon with 15.3 percent, of the total registered deaths in the region during the same period.   Source: Philippine Statistics Authority, Civil Registration Service, Vital Statistics Division (Preliminary as of 28 February 2023) (p) - Preliminary     More male deaths than female deaths   In CALABARZON, there was a higher number of male deaths than female deaths in all five provinces in 2022.
