SPECIAL RELEASE Statistics on Building Construction A construction permit or building permit is a permit required in most jurisdictions for new construction, or adding onto pre-existing structures, and in some cases for major renovations. Generally, the new construction must be inspected during construction and after completion to ensure compliance with national, regional, and local building codes. Failure to obtain a permit can result in significant fines and penalties, and even demolition of unauthorized construction if it cannot be made to meet code. Building Construction in Batangas Province Number of Constructions decreased: The number of constructions in the third quarter of 2021 reached a total of 1,720 indicating an annual decrease of –14.6 percent. In the previous quarter the number of constructions decreased at an annual rate of –7.2 percent and in the third quarter of 2020, it increased at 4.0 percent. Residential has the highest number of constructions: By type of construction, residential reported the highest number of constructions during the quarter which totalled 1,247 or 72.5 percent of the total number of the total number of constructions. Because of COVID –19 pandemic, this type of construction dropped at a faster rate of -18.9 percent that its annual rate in the previous quarter of 4.4 percent. Majority 91.7% of the residential constructions were single-type houses. Total value of constructions increased: In the third quarter of 2021, the total value of constructions amounted to PhP 5,090,050 million increased by 49.6 percent. Compared to previous quarter it declined at an annual rate of –23.6 percent, while (17.3)percent of an annual rate in the third quarter of 2019. Residential building constructions, valued at 2,193,860 million, accounted for 43.1 percent of the total value. This shows a contraction of (10.0) percent from the 2,306,603 million construction value posted in the previous quarter of 2021. Construction value of non-residential buildings amounted to 1,088,958 million or 49.6 percent of the total value. This reflects 82.3 percent decrease from the PhP 1,458,816 million value of construction in the same quarter of the previous year.
