Population and Demography
The total population of Quezon province (excluding Lucena City) was 1,950,459 as of May 1, 2020 based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH). There was an increase of 93,877 persons or 5.1 percent from the result of the 2015 Census of Population at 1,856,582. (Table 1)
Forty-nine (49.0) percent of the household population in Quezon province were women.
Quezon province excluding Lucena City has a total household population of 1,945,444 in 2020. Males accounting for 988,919 (50.8%), while 956,525 (49.2%) were females. The sex distribution in the 2015 Census of Population was nearly identical, with males comprising 51.0 percent and females making up 49.0 percent. (Table 2 and Figure 2)
In 2020, the distribution of the population by age and sex showed that males outnumbered females in the age group 0 to 59 years, making up 51.4 percent. However, in the older age group of 60 years and above, females accounted for 55.7 percent, while males represented 44.3 percent. (Table 3)
Birth Registration in Quezon province is high
Of a total household population of 1,945,444 in the province in 2020, there were 1,915,059 (98.4 percent) whose births were registered. Unregistered population accounted for 1.5 percent (28,433) while 0.1 percent (1,949) had births with unknown registration status and 3 persons whose births were not reported.
Both males and females recorded high birth registration rates, with 98.4 percent and 98.5 percent, respectively. A higher number of male births (14,568) than female births (13,865) remain unregistered. (Table 4)
More than half of the household population are single
By marital status, 1,008,853 (51.9 percent) were single, 584,987 (30.1 percent) married, 252,995 (13.0 percent), living in a common-law or live-in arrangements, 72,984 (3.8 percent), widowed, and 25,555 (1.3 percent) divorced/ separated/ annulled.
The percentage of single was higher among males (54.8 percent) than females (48.9 percent). Moreover, among the widowed population, females (57,176 or 6.0 percent) outnumbered their male counterpart (15,808 or 1.6 percent). (Table 5)
Roman Catholics account for 91.7 percent of the household population
Of the 1,945,444 household population in 2020, nearly nine tenth or 1,784,564 persons (91.7%) reported Roman Catholic as their religious affiliation. It was followed by Iglesia ni Cristo with 58,580 persons (3.0%), and Seventh Day Adventist with 11,834 persons (0.6%).
Completing the top ten religious affiliations in 2020 are Bible Baptist Church and Jehovah's Witnesses (both with 0.3%); Church of Christ, Jesus is Lord Church, United Church of Christ in the Philippines and Baptist Conference of the Philippines (all with 0.2%) and Islam (0.1%). (Table 6)
About 62 percent of the household population is of voting age
The voting-age population (18 years old and over) accounted for 61.7 percent (1.2 million) of the household population in 2020, up from 60.2 percent (1.1 million) in 2015. (Table 3 and Figure 5)
One (1) in every ten (10) female own/s other land
The 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH) reported that 556,768 household population, or 28.6 percent of the total 1,945,397 household population in Quezon province, owned at least one piece of land in addition to the land they occupied at the time of the census. Of the total land owned, 49.4 percent was owned by females, while 50.6 percent was owned by males. (Table 11)
About nine (9) in every ten (10) household population has Tagalog ethnicity
About nine in every ten (88.0%) of the 1.9 million household population in 2020 reported Tagalog as their ethnicity in Quezon province. Other major ethnicities were Bisaya/Binisaya (4.9%), Bikol/Bicol (4.3%), Ilocano and Dumagat (0.4% each), Cebuano, Waray and Ilonggo (0.3% each), and Aeta (0.2% each). (Figure 8 and Table 12).
There were more females than males among those with functional difficulty
Of the 1,744,556 household population five years old and over, 17.1 percent (or 298,536 persons) had at least one type of functional difficulty either in seeing, hearing, walking or climbing steps, remembering or concentrating, self-caring (bathing or dressing), or communicating. There were more females (56.1 percent) than males (43.9 percent) among those persons with at least one type of functional difficulty.
Moreover, of the total 298,536 people aged five years and over with at least one type of functional difficulty, 51.2 percent reported difficulty in seeing, even if wearing eyeglasses. There were 14.9 percent who had difficulty in walking or climbing steps; 13.7 percent had difficulty in hearing, even if using a hearing aid; 11.9 percent had difficulty in remembering or concentrating; 4.2 percent had difficulty in communicating; and 4.0 percent had difficulty in self-caring (bathing or dressing). (Table 14)
Overseas Filipino Workers are estimated at 36 thousand
The number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) accounted for 36,019 persons or 2.7 percent of the 1,320,945 household population 15 years old and over in Quezon province. Of the 36,019 OFWs, 17,024 were males while 18,995 were females.
Among the household population 15 years old and over, the percentage of OFW was slightly higher among females (2.9 percent) than males (2.6 percent). Females outnumbered males with a 0.3 percentage points difference or higher by 1,971. (Table 15)
