The number of marriages for the first quarter of 2023 registered a total of 3,712. Among the cities/municipalities in Laguna, the City of Calamba had the highest recorded number of marriages with 429 couples. It comprised of 11.6 percent of the total marriages. It was followed by the City of Biñan with 360 marriages (9.7 percent) and City of San Pablo and City of Santa Rosa, both with 358 marriages (9.6 percent), respectively. Figure 1. Number of Registered Marriages by City/Municipality in Laguna: January to March 2023 On the other hand, the municipality of Famy recorded the least with only 12 (0.3 percent) marriage.   Figure 2. Number of Registered Marriages by Type of Ceremony in Laguna:  First Quarter 2023 Figure 2 shows the total registered marriages by type of ceremony for the first quarter of 2023. Marriages solemnized under Civil Rites showed the largest proportion with 2,156 or 58.1 percent. Ranked second was marriages under Other Religious Rites with 801 or 21.6 percent followed by marriages solemnized under Roman Catholic with 755 or 20.3 percent. However, none were officiated under Muslim and Tribal rites during the first quarter of 2023.   Figure 3. Number of Registered Marriages by Status of Registration in Laguna: First Quarter 2023 Figure 3 shows that most of the marriages in the first quarter of 2023 were timely registered with 3,631 or 98 percent. In ordinary marriage, or a marriage requiring a marriage license, the time for submission of the Certificate of Marriage to the concerned Local Civil Registry Office is within fifteen (15) days following the solemnization of marriage while in marriages exempt from license requirement, the prescribed period is thirty (30) days. A report beyond the reglementary period is considered late.   Figure 4. Number of Registered Marriages by Place of Ceremony in Laguna: First Quarter 2023   Most marriage rites in the first quarter 2023 were officiated in the Office of the Mayor, Judge, etc. with 1,804 marriages or 48.6 percent followed by church weddings with 1,164 marriages or 31.4 percent.     Technical Notes Vital statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual’s entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records. The reference period of this special release is from January to March 2023. This release contains statistical tables and graphs encompassing the vital event - marriages occurring in the province of Laguna.
