Quezon Province is the Top Palay Producer in CALABARZON for the Fourth Quarter of 2021 Quezon was the top palay producing province in CALABARZON in the fourth quarter of 2021. It produced 70,487 metric tons of palay comprising 49.4 percent of the total regional output of 142,755 metric tons. Laguna was the second top palay producer in the region with 25.9 percent share (37,043 MT) followed by Batangas with 11.9 percent (17,031 MT). Cavite and Rizal contributed 6.7 percent (9,585 MT), and 6.0 percent (8,609 MT), respectively. Palay Production Quezon’s production slightly increased by 5.1 percent compared to its harvest in the same quarter in 2020 (67,047 metric tons). By ecosystem, palay production in irrigated farms was 44,161 metric tons. This figure was 4.8 percent lower compared to the 46,373 metric tons produced in the same quarter of 2020. On the other hand, production in rainfed areas went up by 27.3 percent from 20,507 metric tons recorded in the fourth quarter of 2020 to 26,109 metric tons in the same period of 2021. Likewise, the production in upland areas at 217 metric tons increased by 29.9 percent compared to the 167 metric tons produced in the fourth quarter of 2020. Harvest Area The total palay harvest area was estimated at 19,315 hectares. It slightly went up by 5.4 percent from 18,334 hectares in the fourth quarter of 2020. In irrigated palay farms, harvest area slightly decreased by 2.2 percent from 11,735 hectares in the fourth quarter of 2020 to 11,475 hectares in the same period of 2021. In contrast, harvest area of rainfed palay farms posted an 18.1 percent increase from 6,484 hectares to 7,658 hectares for the same reference period being compared. Harvest area in upland farms also rose by 58.3 percent from 115 hectares to 182 hectares during the reference quarters.
