Quezon Province is the Top Palay Producer in CALABARZON for the Third Quarter of 2021 Quezon was the top palay producing province in CALABARZON in the third quarter of 2021. It produced 19,756 metric tons of palay comprising 50.2 percent of the total regional output of 39,394 metric tons. Laguna was the second top palay producer in the region with 21.6 percent share (8,513 MT) followed by Cavite with 13.9 percent (5,472 MT). Batangas and Rizal contributed 10.6 percent (4,184 MT), and 3.7 percent (1,469 MT), respectively. Palay Production Quezon’s production slightly increased by 2.6 percent compared to its output in the same quarter in 2020 (19,253 metric tons). By ecosystem, palay production in irrigated farms was 15,953 metric tons. This figure was 38.7 percent higher compared to the 11,504 metric tons produced in the same quarter of 2020. On the other hand, production in rainfed areas went down by 51.3 percent from 7,571 metric tons recorded in the third quarter of 2020 to 3,690 metric tons in the same period of 2021. Likewise, the production in upland areas at 113 metric tons decreased by 36.5 percent compared to the 178 metric tons produced in the third quarter of 2020. Area Harvested The total harvest area for palay was estimated at 6,077 hectares. It slightly went up by 2.7 percent from 5,917 hectares in the third quarter of 2020. In irrigated palay farms, harvest area increased by 39.4 percent from 3,286 hectares in the third quarter of 2020 to 4,580 hectares in the same period of 2021. In contrast, harvest area for rainfed palay farms posted a 43.9 percent decrease from 2,478 hectares to 1,390 hectares for the same reference period being compared. Harvested area in upland farms also decreased by 30.1 percent from 153 hectares to 107 hectares during the reference quarters.
