Quezon Province is the Top Palay Producer in CALABARZON for the First Quarter of 2020 Quezon was the top palay producing province in CALABARZON in the first quarter of 2020. It produced 40,303 metric tons of palay comprising 49.4 percent of the total regional output of 81,610 metric tons. Laguna came next with 31 .1 percent share (25,394 MT) followed by Batangas with 8.6 percent share (7,019 MT). Cavite and Rizal shared 6.7 percent (5,471 MT), and 4.2 percent (3,424 MT), respectively. Palay Production Quezon’s production increased by 5.5% percent compared to its output in the same quarter in 2019 (38,203 metric tons). By ecosystem, palay production in irrigated farms was 22,327 metric tons. This figure was 1.3 percent higher compared to the 22,049 metric tons produced in the same quarter of 2019. Likewise, production in rainfed areas went up by 11.3 percent from 16,154 metric tons recorded in the first quarter of 2019 to 17, 976 metric tons in the same period of 2020. There was no recorded production in upland farms during first quarter of 2019 and 2020 Area Harvested The total harvest area for palay was estimated at 13,403 hectares. It slightly decreased by 0.7 percent from 13,496 hectares in the first quarter of 2019. In irrigated palay farms, harvest area decreased by 0.3 percent from 6,475 hectares in the first quarter of 2019 to 6,457 hectares in the same period of 2020. Similarly, the harvest area for rainfed palay farms decreased by 1.1 percent from 7,021 hectares to 6,946 hectares for the same reference period being compared. There was no harvest area reported in upland farms during first quarter of both years.
