In a significant step towards inclusivity and ensuring that all citizens have access to vital government services, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Batangas, in collaboration with Batangas City Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), successfully conducted a Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) registration drive for inmates and civilians on May 14, 2024. This initiative was overseen and approved by Jail Warden Hansel M. Kiwang.

During the registration drive, PhilSys Batangas registered a total of 112 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and 3 civilians. This effort is part of the ongoing national campaign to provide every Filipino with a valid proof of identity through the PhilSys, which aims to simplify public and private transactions, promote financial inclusion, and enhance the delivery of social services.

This initiative is a crucial tool for the PDLs as it enables them to have a recognized identity that can aid in their reintegration into society. This ID will facilitate access to government services, including health, education, and social protection programs, which are essential for their rehabilitation and eventual reintegration.

The registration process was conducted smoothly and efficiently, with dedicated teams from PhilSys Batangas City, setting up their registration kits/devices within the jail premises. They ensured that all registrants, both PDLs and civilians, had their biometric data and demographic information accurately captured. This initiative reflects the commitment of the Philippine government to include every sector of society in its national development plans.

The successful registration of inmates and civilians at the Batangas City Jail sets a positive example for other detention facilities across the country. It underscores the importance of ensuring that every Filipino, regardless of their current circumstances, is recognized and provided with the means to access vital services and opportunities.
