There were 4,958 reported death incidences in Laguna from April to June 2023 resulted to 1.3 percent decreased from second quarter of 2022. A total of 2,794 (56.4%) male deaths and 2,164 (43.6%) female deaths were recorded for the second quarter of the year 2023 of which outcome a sex ratio of death of 129 males per 100 females for the whole province of Laguna. The mean monthly registered deaths were estimated to be 1,653. This means that almost 18 persons died every day during the second quarter of the year 2023. Figure 1. Number of Registered Deaths by City/Municipality, Laguna: Second Quarter 2023 City of Calamba shows the highest recorded number of registered deaths at which accounts to 14.7 percent or 727 of the total number of deaths in the province.  This was followed by City of San Pablo with 628 deaths or 12.7 percent and City of Santa Rosa with 521 deaths or 10.5 percent registered during the quarter. On the other hand, municipalities of Famy and Rizal, had the lowest number with 22 and 14 registered deaths, respectively.  These shows 0.4 and 0.3 percent shares of the total deaths for the second quarter of the year 2023. The highest percentage was married persons recorded at 2,283 or 46.0 percent, followed by single persons with 1,380 or 27.8 percent and widow/widower with 1,288 or 26.0 percent of the total deaths for the second quarter of the year 2023. Number of Registered Deaths by Civil Status by Sex, Laguna: Second Quarter 2023 In terms of distribution by sex, 31.9 percent of deaths were composed of married men, while 14.1 percent were composed of married women. On the other hand, 17.0 percent of males and 10.8 percent of females were single. Similarly, 7.3 percent of males and 18.6 percent of females were widower/widowed. Figure 4. Percent Distribution of Attendant at Death, Laguna: Second Quarter 2023 Attendant refers to a private physician, public health officer, hospital authority, or any other allied health care provider who provided medical attendance to the deceased at the time of death. Out of 4,958 registered deaths, 3,433 or 68.8% were attended by public health officer. It was followed by private physician with 1,389 or 27.2%, services of hospital authority comprised 0.8% or 27 registered deaths.       (SGD) MAGDALENA T.
