Number of Deaths… There were 1,421 registered deaths in Quezon in May 2023. It recorded an increase of 22.2 percent from the previous month’s figure of 1,163. The daily average of death occurrences during the month was 46 or approximately two deaths per hour.   Deaths by Sex… There were more male deaths (791 or 55.7%) than female deaths (630 or 44.3%) registered during the month. The death sex ratio was calculated at 126 males for every 100 females in May 2023.   Deaths by Age-group… Majority of the death occurrences belonged to age group 60 and over with a total of 852. This comprised more than half or 60.0 percent of the total deaths recorded for the month. Age group 55-59 years old registered the next highest death toll which accounted for 129 or 9.1 percent.   Infant Deaths… Infant deaths totaled 55 or 3.9 percent of the total mortality.  Infant deaths were higher for males (31) than females (24) giving an infant death sex ratio of 129 males for every 100 females.   Deaths by Place of Occurrence and Usual Place of Residence… Lucena City recorded the most number of deaths at 348 or 24.5 percent. This may be explained by its large population and the health facilities available in the city. The municipality of Candelaria (82 or 5.8%) came next in terms of highest number of death occurrences. It was followed by Lopez and Sariaya (both with 67 or 4.7%) and City of Tayabas (65 or 4.6%). There were 216 deaths that occurred outside the usual place of residence of the deceased. Lucena City recorded the highest number of deaths (154) that occurred outside the usual residence of the deceased. It was followed by Candelaria (18), Infanta (12), Gumaca (11) and Catanauan (9). Majority of the rest of the municipalities and city of the province registered higher number of deaths by usual residence than the number of deaths by place of occurrence.   Leading Causes of Deaths (8 days old over)… There were 1,399 registered deaths among those aged 8 days and over.  Of this total, 295 (21.1%) cases were due to diseases of the heart while  hypertensive diseases accounted for 168 or 12.0 percent.   Cerebrovascular diseases caused 112 (8.0%) deaths, pneumonia caused 106 (7.6%) while diabetes mellitus caused 70 (5.0%) deaths.   Maternal Deaths… There were three (3) maternal deaths recorded for the month of May 2023.     (SGD.)
