Number of Deaths… There were 14,508 registered deaths in Quezon for the year 2022. It recorded a decrease of 27.1 percent from the previous year’s figure of 19,895. The daily average of death occurrences during the year was 40 or approximately two deaths per hour. Deaths by Sex… There were more male deaths (8,234 or 56.8 percent) than female deaths (6,274 or 43.2 percent) registered during the year. The death sex ratio was calculated at 131 males for every 100 females in 2022. Deaths by Month of Occurrence… January (1,621 or 11.2 percent) and August (1,322 or 9.1 percent) recorded the highest death toll while the lowest was noted in October (942 or 6.5 percent). January recorded the highest daily average of 52 deaths. It was followed by August and November, both with 43 deaths per day. Daily index of more than 100 indicates a daily average higher than the overall figure at the provincial level. Five months of the year had daily indices above 100. Deaths by Age-group… The bulk of registered deaths belonged to age group 60 and over with a total of 8,599. This comprised 59.3 percent or more than half of the total deaths recorded for the year. Age group 55-59 years old accounted for the next highest death toll of 1,260 or 8.7 percent. Infant Deaths… Infant deaths totaled 533 or 3.7 percent of the total mortality. Infant deaths were higher for males (314) than females (219) giving an infant death sex ratio of 143 males for every 100 females. Deaths by Place of Occurrence and Usual Place of Residence… Lucena City recorded the most number of deaths at 3,671 or 25.3 percent. This may be explained by its large population and the health facilities available in the city. The municipalities of Candelaria (932 or 6.4 percent), Sariaya (765 or 5.3 percent), Lopez (684 or 4.7 percent) and Gumaca (629 or 4.3 percent) came next in terms of highest number of death occurrences. There were 2,104 deaths that occurred outside the usual place of residence of the deceased. Lucena City recorded the highest number of deaths (1,669) that occurred outside the usual residence of the deceased. It was followed by  Infanta (137), Gumaca (97), Lopez (83) and Candelaria (75). Majority of the rest of the municipalities and city of the province registered higher number of deaths by usual residence than the number of deaths by place of occurrence. Leading Causes of Deaths (8 days old over)… There were 14,240 registered deaths among those aged  8 days and over. Of this total, 3,433 (24.1 percent) cases were due to diseases of the heart while hypertensive diseases accounted for 1,685 or 11.8 percent. Cerebrovascular diseases caused 1,029 (7.2 percent) deaths, diabetes mellitus caused 731 (5.1 percent) deaths while pneumonia caused 704 (4.9 percent) deaths.     (SGD.) AIRENE A.
