This is the highest inflation rate recorded since December 2008. Moreover, this is a 3.1-percent index point increase over the recorded inflation rate in the same month of 2021 at 4.0 percent. The average inflation for the first eleven months of the year stood at 5.0 percent. (Table A and Figure 1) Table B. Also contributing to the uptrend in the overall inflation during the period were the higher annual increments in the indices of the following: personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 4.2 percent; clothing and footwear at 3.6 percent; information and communication at 0.7 percent; health at 2.8 percent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 10.6 percent; education services at 3.6 percent; and recreation, sport and culture at 3.3 percent. Meanwhile, annual upticks slowed down as compared to their previous month’s inflation rates in the indices of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 6.9 percent and transport at 12.3 percent. Financial services retained its previous month’s inflation rate at 0.0 percent. (Table B) Table C. In November 2021, food inflation was lower compared to this year’s inflation at 2.3 percent. (Table C) The annual growth rate of the sugar, confectionery and desserts index went up to 32.5 percent during the month, from 27.6 percent in the previous month. In addition, double-digit inflation was also recorded in the index of vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses at 31.3 percent and oils and fats at 21.6 percent. Moreover, food groups exhibited higher annual increments during the month are the following: Cereals and cereal products, 5.6 percent; Milk, other dairy products, and eggs, 9.3 percent; and Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c., 9.2 percent. Meanwhile, food groups that registered deceleration are the following: meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals at 5.6 percent; fish and other seafood at 7.5 percent; and fruits and nuts at 3.4 percent. Lastly, the rice index accelerated at 2.7 percent inflation during the month, from 2.6 percent in the previous month. In addition, the corn index also had higher annual uptick at 12.8 percent.
