NUMBER OF APPROVED BUILDING PERMITS A total of 3,549 private building constructions based on approved building permits were reported in the province for the year 2019. This number marked a decrease of 11.0 percent compared to the 3,989 approved building permits recorded in 2018. The Lucena City had the highest number of approved building permitswith 683 or 19.2 percent followed by City of Tayabas with 661 or 18.6 percent. Lucban came next with 336 (9.5 percent) approved building permits followed by Candelaria with 221 or 6.2 percent. Residential building constructions recorded a totalof 2,898 comprising 81.7 percent of the total approved building constructions in the province during the year. This reflected a decrease of 18.4 percent from the previous year’s 3,551 residential constructions. On the other hand, the total non-residential building constructions recorded a share of 568 (16.0 percent), higher by 41.3 percent from the previous year’s 402 non-residential constructions. Approved applications for additions, with a total of 83 increased by 130.6 percent from last year’s figure of 36. Alterations and repairs of existing structures with a total of 195 increased by 18.9 percent from 164 applications recorded on a year-on-year basis. VALUE OF CONSTRUCTION The total value of constructions during the reference year reached PhP 8.55 billion, indicating an increase of 44.2 percent from PhP 5.93 billion recorded in 2018. The average cost of construction in the province was computed at PhP 13,561 per square meter, excluding the value of alterations and repairs, demolitions and street furnitures. By type, non-residential constructions accounted for the biggestvalue with PhP 4.97 billion or 58.2 percent of the total value of constructions in the province. Its average cost per square meter was computed at PhP 16,203. Residential building constructions on the other hand, was valued at PhP 3.47 billion comprising 40.6 percent of the total value of constructions. Of this amount, PhP 2.84 billion went to single type residential units accounting for 81.7 percent of the total value of residential construction. The average cost of residential construction. Furthermore, the value of constructions classified as additions reached PhP 107.53 million or 1.3 percent. RESIDENTIAL BUILDING CONSTRUCTIONS BY TYPE Of the 2,898 new residential building constructions, 2,490 (85.9 percent) were single detached. The rest comprising 14.1 percent included duplex/quadruplex, apartments/accesoria, and other types of residential buildings.
