The headline inflation or overall inflation in Quezon Province decreased to 4.3 percent in February 2025, from 5.8 percent in January 2025. However, inflation in February 2025 was higher compared to February 2024, which was recorded at 1.0 percent.
The decline in overall inflation in February 2025 was primarily driven by the slower annual increase in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index, which settled at
9.2 percent during the month, down from 12.6 percent in January 2025.
Moreover, the following commodity groups also contributed to the downtrend during the month:
a. Clothing and footwear at 0.9 percent, from 1.1 percent;
b. Health at 0.4 percent, from 0.7 percent;
c. Transport at -1.5 percent, from 0.8 percent;
d. Recreation, sport and culture at 0.5 percent, from 0.6 percent; and
e. Restaurants and accommodation services at 2.7 percent, from 2.9 percent.
In contrast, the following commodity groups registered higher inflation rates during the month:
a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 2.9 percent, from 1.5 percent;
b. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 1.0 percent, from 0.8 percent; and
c. Information and communication at 0.6 percent, from 0.5 percent.
Meanwhile, the following commodity groups retained their annual rates from the previous month:
a. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at
1.5 percent;
b. Education services at 3.0 percent;
c. Financial services at 0.0 percent; and
d. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 1.0 percent.
Food inflation in Quezon Province decreased to 9.8 percent in February 2025, from
13.5 percent in January 2025. In February 2024, food inflation was lower at 0.0 percent.
The slowdown in food inflation in February 2025 was primarily due to the lower year-on-year increase in the index of fish and other seafood, which dropped to
7.3 percent from 18.5 percent in the previous month.
In addition, the following food groups registered slower annual growth rates during the month:
a. Rice at 12.3 percent, from 13.0 percent;
b. Corn at 36.8 percent, from 52.5 percent;
c. Flour, bread and other bakery products, pasta products, and other cereals at
0.8 percent, from 0.9 percent;
d. Milk, other dairy products and eggs at 8.9 percent, from 9.1 percent;
e. Fruits and nuts at 10.9 percent, from 18.9 percent; and
f. Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses at 10.5 percent, from 26.5 percent.
On the contrary, higher annual growth rates during the month were observed in the indices of the following food groups:
a. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals at 15.3 percent, from
15.2 percent;
b. Oils and Fats at 14.7 percent, from 13.2 percent;
c. Sugar, confectionery and desserts at 0.4 percent, from 0.1 percent; and
d. Ready-made food and other food products not elsewhere classified at
1.0 percent, from 0.6 percent.
