Headline Inflation

The Batangas Province headline or overall inflation retained its previous month’s inflation rate at 1.2 percent in April 2025. This brings the provincial average January to April 2025 to 1.6 percent. In April 2024, the inflation rate was higher at 3.6 percent.   (Table 1 and Figure 1)

On the other hand, Region IV-A CALABARZON decreased to 1.7 percent in April 2025 from 1.8 in March 2025.   In CALABARZON, the Provinces of Laguna and Rizal ranked first with the highest inflation rate at 2.4 percent in April 2025. It was followed by the provinces of Quezon at 2.1 percent, and Batangas at 1.2 percent in second and third, respectively. The Province of Cavite remained the lowest inflation rate at 0.6 percent in April 2025. 

Moreover, the Philippines’ overall inflation slowed down further to 1.4 percent in April 2025 from1.8 percent in March 2025.  In April 2024, the inflation rate was higher at 3.8 percent (Table 1). 

The top three commodity groups in Batangas Province contributing to the April 2025 overall inflation of 1.2 percent were the following:

  1. a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages with 47.3 percent share or 0.57 percentage point

    b. Restaurants and accommodation services with 30.6 percent share or 0.37 percentage points

    c. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco with 13.8 percent share or 0.17 percentage points

 

Food Inflation

Food inflation in Batangas further eased to 1.7 percent in April 2025 from 2.2 percent in the previous month.  In April 2024, food inflation was higher at 4.1 percent. (Table 3)

The deceleration of food inflation in April 2025 was primarily brought about by the faster year-on-year decline of the following food groups:

  1. a. Oils and Fats, 27.5 percent from 29.9 percent

  2. b. Milk and other dairy products and eggs, 3.2 percent from 3.4 percent

  3. c. Ready-made food and other food products, 2.8 percent from 3.2 percent

  4. d. Vegetables, tubers. Plantains, cooking bananas and pulses, (0.3) percent from 7.9 percent

  5. e. Sugar, confectionery and desserts, (1.1) percent from 0.1 percent

  6. f. Cereals and cereal products, (8.1) percent from (5.6) percent

 

On the contrary, faster year-on-year increases were observed in the indices of:

  1. a. meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals at 11.8 percent in April 2025 up from 9.1 percent in the previous month

  2. fruits and nuts at 13.5 percent in April 2025 up from 13.1 percent in March 2025. 

Food inflation shared 40.0 percent or 0.48 percentage points to the overall inflation in April 2025.  The top three food groups in terms of contribution to the food inflation during the month were the following:

  a. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals with a share of 164.7 percent or 2.8           percentage point

  b. Fruits and nuts with a share of 31.7 percent or 0.5 percentage point

  c. Oils and fats with a share of 26.5 percent or 0.5 percentage point
