CPI by commodity group, Year-on-Year Alcoholic beverages and tobacco showed the highest CPI (311.8 index points) among the commodity groups. The group of restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services followed with 127.4 index points. Transport registered the least CPI of 100.8 index points followed by communication with 103.3 index points. Inflation Rate, Year-on-Year The inflation rate (IR) in the province was recorded at 1.6 percent during the reference month. It decreased by 0.5 percentage point from the previous month’s figure of 2.1 percent, but it increased by 1.0 percentage points from the rate a year ago at 0.6 percent. Inflation Rate by Commodity Group, Year-on-Year By commodity group, IR was highest for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, posted at 17.0 percent during the month. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (3.2 percent) exhibited the second highest IR, followed by the commodity group of furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (2.7 percent). Commodity groups of recreation and culture; and transport recorded a negative IR of 1.1 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively. Zero inflation was noted in the commodity group of education. The rest of the commodity groups had IR ranging from 0.2 percent (communication) to 1.4 percent (food and non-alcoholic beverages). Month-on-Month Change… Prices of consumer items in the province recorded a 0.5 percent decrease from July to August 2020. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels posted the highest positive month-on-month change of 0.2 percent. It was followed by commodity groups of alcoholic beverages and tobacco; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services (both with 0.1 percent). In contrast, commodity groups of recreation and culture; food and non-alcoholic beverages; and transport; recorded negative change of 2.3 percent, 1.0 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively. The rest of the commodity groups had zero growth during the month.
