Live births… A total of 3,177 live births were registered in the province in August 2021. It recorded an increase of 13.8 percent from the July figure of 2,791. The daily average of birth occurrences during the month was 102. Of the total births registered, 52.5 percent were males and 47.5 percent were females. This resulted to a birth sex ratio of 111 males for every 100 females. Lucena City recorded the highest number of live births with a total of 729 or 22.9 percent of the total births registered in the province. It was followed by Candelaria with a total of 364 or 11.5 percent and Lopez with 243 or 7.6 percent. The least number of registered births were observed in the municipalities of Perez (with 5 or 0.16 percent), Agdangan, San Antonio and Tiaong (all with 6 or 0.19 percent). There was no registered birth in the municipality of Plaridel. Attendant at Birth... The 2,545 (80.1 percent) birth deliveries were attended to by medically trained personnel such as physicians, nurses and midwives. Among the medically trained personnel, physicians attended to the most number of deliveries with 1,424 or 44.8 percent of the total births registered. The number of birth occurrences delivered by the traditional birth attendants and those without medical training was 632 or 19.9 percent of the total. Four municipalities in the province recorded higher number of live births attended to by traditional birth attendants compared to those attended to by health professionals. These are the municipalities of San Francisco (85.6 percent), Panukulan (77.9 percent), San Narciso (69.4 percent) and Burdeos (60.0 percent).
