PSA QUEZON RANKS 8TH BEST PSA PROVINCIAL STATISTICAL OFFICE
PSA Quezon made it to the Top 15 Best Performing Provinces, being at the 8th place among 86 Provincial Statistical Offices during the 2022 PSA Awards held in Quezon City. On September 13, 2023, PSO Airene A. Pucyutan received the plaque of recognition during the 2022 PSA Awards Night.
In addition, PSA Quezon ranked 3rd in Information Dissemination category, 4th Place in Civil Registration and another recognition for successfully accomplishing the activities in the compilation of Provincial Product Accounts as one of the pilot provinces in 2022.
The PSA Awards is an incentive system aimed to ensure timely delivery of quality outputs in the implementation of PSA’s mandated activities. The awarding was conducted as part of the PSA 10th Anniversary celebration with the theme "PSA@10: Providing Quality Services through Digital Transformation". Congratulations PSA Quezon for a job well done!

PSA QUEZON JOINS THE 4TH QUARTER 2023 NATIONWIDE SIMULTANEOUS EARTHQUAKE DRILL
PSA Quezon personnel joined the Fourth Quarter 2023 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on November 9, 2023, 9:00 AM. The NSED is a drill aimed at raising preparedness during earthquakes and ensuring that the employees are equipped with skills to correctly act and respond in the event of an earthquake.
Prior to the earthquake drill, an orientation was conducted to educate the personnel and provide them essential and practical survival tips in the evacuation process. During the simulation exercise, every staff executed the duck, cover and hold inside the office. Afterwards, they evacuated the office wearing the hard hats and finally proceeded to the designated assembly area.
Provincial Statistics Officer Airene A. Pucyutan, strongly advocates for the disaster safety and earthquake preparedness and awareness of every employee in the agency. This exercise allows the office to review the emergency plan during disaster as well as the public service continuity plan of PSA Quezon.

PSC QUEZON CONDUCTS 4TH QUARTER MEETING FOR 2023
The Provincial Statistics Committee of Quezon (PSCQ) conducted its 4th Quarter Meeting on 21 November 2023 at the Conference Room of Governor’s Office Building in Lucena City. Ms. Airene A. Pucyutan, PSA Quezon Provincial Statistics Officer (PSO) and PSC Vice-Chairperson presided over the meeting. It was participated in by PSC members from different government agencies, academe and representatives from private sectors.
Among the agenda items included were the PSC resolutions for approval such as the inclusion of Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), Technical and Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-Quezon, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) - Quezon and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) - Quezon as members of PSC Quezon; and the creation of the Technical Working Group for 2024 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS).
Other business matters tackled were the 34th National Statistics Month accomplishment report of the Provincial Government of Quezon, Cybersecurity and Data Privacy from DICT and Indigenous Peoples (IP) Statistics from National Commission of Indigenous Peoples (NCIP). In addition, different member agencies presented various data and indicators showing the economic situation of the province.
Updates on the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) Dissemination forum were also mentioned during the meeting.

CSTC STUDENT TRIUMPHS IN THE 2023 PSQ QUEZON PROVINCIAL ELIMINATION
Mr. Nathaniel D. Jalago, a BS Psychology freshman student from College of Sciences, Technology and Communications, Inc., Sariaya, Quezon won the first prize in the recently concluded 2023 Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Quezon Provincial Elimination held on October 2, 2023, at the Activity Center of Pacific Mall, Lucena City. Forty-two (42) young whizzes from different colleges and universities in Quezon joined the quiz.
The second placer was Ms. Adrienne Nadine R. Baladad, a BS Marine Transportation student from Inter-Global College Foundation. Bagging the third to fifth places were all the three contestants from Southern Luzon State University, which included Ken L. Peñaflorida, BS Mathematics student, Ivan Jen Isaac M. Tampoc and Mhike Owenn M. Romey, both BS Mechanical Engineering students. The top five (5) winners represented Quezon province in the PSQ Regional Elimination held on November 10, 2023 in Lipa City, Batangas.
Ms. Lou Darlence O. Mitra from PSA RSSO 4A, Mr. Lay-Ar M. Baliza from the Office of the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, Dir. Julieta L. Tadiosa of the Department of Trade and Industry - Quezon and Ms. Airene A. Pucyutan of PSA Quezon served as the board of judges in the said contest.
The PSQ is an annual nationwide contest designed to test the knowledge on statistics of freshman students enrolled in colleges and universities in the seventeen (17) regions of the country. The 2023 PSQ is the 27th in the series since 1992.

EIGHT MUNICIPALITIES IN QUEZON RECEIVE THEIR CBMS DATA IN 2023
Quezon Provincial Statistical Office successfully turned over the data from the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) to eight (8) local government units in Quezon province during the last quarter of 2023. The first CBMS data turn-over was conducted for the LGU of Plaridel, held in the said municipality. The ceremonial activities for the municipalities of Jomalig, Patnanungan and Agdangan were held at Queen Margarette Hotel, in Lucena City. Meanwhile, data turn-over ceremony for the LGU of Quezon was conducted at Monte Vista Hotsprings and Conference Resort, Calamba City, Laguna. On the other hand, the turnover ceremonies for Sampaloc, Alabat and Perez were held in their respective municipalities.
These noteworthy events were attended by the LGU officials such as the Municipal Mayor, Vice Mayor, Planning and Development Coordinator, Department Heads and LGU Personnel. Attendees from PSA were officials from the Regional Statistical Services Office 4A - CALABARZON headed by Regional Director Charito C. Armonia. Quezon Provincial Statistics Officer Airene A. Pucyutan, CBMS focal person Margarita G. Cada and other PSA staff.
The participating LGUs in the 2022 CBMS roll-out have the following number of responding households and individuals:
Plaridel, Quezon - 2,656 households, with 10,640 individuals
Jomalig, Quezon - 1,829 households, with 6,975 individuals
Quezon, Quezon - 1,445 households, with 5,857 individuals
Sampaloc, Quezon - 3,621 households, with 13,018 individuals
Patnanungan, Quezon - 3,553 households, with 14,416 individuals
Agdangan, Quezon - 3,091 households, with 12,146 individuals
Alabat, Quezon - 2,130 households, with 8,254 individuals
Perez, Quezon - 2,376 households, with 9,525 individuals
Senior Statistical Specialist Margarita G. Cada served as the presenter of the highlights of the results of 2022 CBMS from the Household and Barangay Profile Questionnaires. Included in her presentations were access to basic services such as electricity, internet, water, toilet facilities, safety, food insecurity, and disaster preparedness, among others. The LGU can now use the data derived from the CBMS for program planning and policy formulation, according to SrSS Cada.
During the acceptance message in the data turnover ceremonies in their respective municipalities, Mayor Nelmar T. Sarmiento of Jomalig shared that data gathered from CBMS is the only comprehensive local data that they have and assured that they will utilize these in their development plans and programs. Mayor Juan F. Escolano of Quezon expressed his gratitude in the results of CBMS. Vice Mayor Teresita D. Villeno said that CBMS results would enable the LGU of Sampaloc to assess the status and needs of its constituents.
Mayor Marie Claire Natividad said that the CBMS data is a big help in identifying the needs for the continuous community development programs in Patnanungan. Mayor Rhadam P. Aguilar shared that Agdangan, with the smallest land area and the only 5th class municipality in the third district of the province, is fortunate to have their CBMS conducted by PSA. Likewise, Mun. Councilor Raul U. Declaro assured that data would be used in planning programs for the municipality of Alabat. Mayor Charizze Marie E. Escalona said that CBMS data will serve as their guide in the formulation of quality service for the community of Perez.
All mayors expressed their heartfelt appreciation to PSA for funding the conduct of CBMS in their municipalities and that they will support all the undertakings the PSA will embark on.

2022 ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF QUEZON PROVINCE AND CITY OF LUCENA SHOWS CONTINUOUS GROWTH
QUEZON’S ECONOMY ACCELERATES BY 7.68 PERCENT
The economy of the Province of Quezon accelerated by 7.7 percent in 2022 from a 6.0 percent increase in 2021. In 2022, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Quezon was estimated at PhP 217.84 billion.
By major industries, Industry and Services went up by 10.4 percent and 10.1 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the Agriculture, forestry and fishing declined by 0.7 percent.
The GDP per capita growth rate of the province of Quezon was registered at 6.6 percent or estimated at PhP 108,184 in 2022. GDP per capita is derived by dividing the GPDP at constant prices by the population of the province.
In 2022, Rizal registered the modest GDP growth rate of 6.7 percent among the provinces and Highly Urbanized City (HUC). Meanwhile, Cavite registered the highest growth rate of 9.2 percent, followed by the City of Lucena, Quezon, and Batangas with 7.73 percent, 7.68 percent, and 7.66 percent, respectively.
In CALABARZON, Laguna remained the biggest economy in the region accounting for 33.7 percent in 2022. The province of Cavite and Batangas followed with 24.9 percent and 20.9 percent, respectively.

CITY OF LUCENA’S ECONOMY CONTINUES TO EXPAND AT 7.73 PERCENT
The economy of the City of Lucena grew faster at 7.7 percent in 2022, compared to the 4.3 percent growth in 2021, as all industries posted positive growths. In terms of level, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the City of Lucena reached PhP 46.62 billion which already surpassed its pre-pandemic level estimated at PhP 46.27 billion in 2019.
The top three industries with the fastest growth were Other Services which include Arts, entertainment and recreation activities, and other service activities, with 23.2 percent; Construction with 21.4 percent; and Mining and quarrying with 20.7 percent. (Figure 2)
In terms of share to the economy of the City of Lucena, the combined share of Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, Financial and insurance activities, and Real estate and ownership of dwellings contributed almost 45 percent to the economy of the city in 2022.
In terms of share to the PhP 2.94 trillion GDP of CALABARZON in 2022, the City of Lucena had the least share of 1.6 percent.
The 7.73 percent GDP growth of the City of Lucena ranked second among the six economies in CALABARZON region.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) established through Republic Act No. 10625, otherwise known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, is tasked, among others, to compile and maintain macroeconomic accounts and indicators at the national and subnational level.
The Provincial Product Accounts or PPA has been the mechanism of the PSA to compile the annual estimates of Gross Domestic Product by province/HUC, consistent with the National and Regional Accounts of the Philippines. In 2023, all provinces and HUC of CALABARZON continue to implement the PPA since its inception in 2021, together with other pilot regions. As of 2023, a total of 82 provinces and 17 HUCs are compiling the PPA.

PSA QUEZON CONDUCTS PROVINCIAL PLANNING WORKSHOP FOR 2024
The Annual Provincial Planning Workshop (PPW) of PSA Quezon was held last December 5-7, 2023 at Ace Hotel Suites and Water Spa, Pasig City with the theme, “Strengthening Data Stewardship Towards a Responsive Public Service”.
The three-day workshop primarily aims to provide an overall direction of the programs, activities and projects and map out strategies, actions and activities for 2024.
The PPW was filled with discussions on the accomplishments of the Provincial Statistical Office for the calendar year 2023, Work Program for 2024, and 2025 High Impact Activities. Specific topics discussed includes statistical projects, civil registration and PhilSys registration activities, gender and development plan and other mandated projects and activities for 2024. In addition, there was also a discussion on Tableau.
The three-day workshop also touched on Quality Management System and 5S Quality Workplace Standard as prelude for the ISO assessment for 2024. It included QMS internal quality audit findings and recommendations and updating of the Risk Registry and Action Plan (RRAP). The preparation of Project Procurement Management Plan (PPMP) has also been part of the workshop.
