On October 7, 2024, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - Quezon Provincial Statistical Office announced the celebration of the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) during a flag raising ceremony held at the Quezon Convention Center, Lucena City attended by Supervising Statistical Specialist (SSS) Normita D. Pagkatipunan, Senior Statistical Specialist Margarita G. Cada, and Registration Officer I Danica O. Cabalsa.
In her message, SSS Pagkatipunan highlighted the theme of this year’s NSM, “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation”. She also outlined some of the activities lined up for the month-long celebration which includes display of streamers/tarpaulins and data exhibit, conduct of various contests such as social media card design, digital slogan-writing, poster-making, and news-feature writing, participation to seminars and conferences on various data, organizing a motorcade, and many others. Further, she encouraged all partner agencies and the local government units in the province to actively participate and support the observance of NSM.
The annual observance of the NSM is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647, “Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Statistics Month”, issued on 20 September 1990 by then President Corazon C. Aquino. The NSM aims to promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society; and elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.
