Performance of Livestock and Poultry in Rizal 1st Quarter 2021 The total inventory of Livestock and Poultry in the province of Rizal as of April 1, 2021 decreased by 12.73% because the 3,277,588 heads from 1st quarter of 2020 became 2,860,190 in the same period of 2021, with the difference of 417,398 heads. The inventory of swine during the first quarter of 2021 decreased by 81.54 percent which is equivalent to 45,000 heads compared to 243,782 heads last year. This posted a decline of 80.97 percent, about 1,655 heads from 16,500 heads in the backyard type of swine. Likewise, the commercial type also slumped to 43,345 heads from 227,282 heads in the first quarter of 2020, which corresponds to an 80.93 percent decrease. For the inventory of poultry during the first quarter of 2021, the broiler type of chicken increased by 14.35% (from 1,154,306 heads to 1,320,000 heads). The layered and native types decreased by 20.54% and 14.61% respectively, as the layered type went from 1,850,000 heads to 1,470,000 while the native types came from 29,500 heads to 25,190. Thus, for the overall total inventory of the poultry, they decreased by 7.21% which is from 3,033,806 heads to 2,815,190. For the poultry sector, the inventory of Layer chicken had the major share in the overall inventory of poultry contributing 52.22 percent while broiler and native shared only 46.89 percent and 0.89 percent respectively of the total poultry population in the province as of April 1, 2021. The number of chickens dressed in poultry dressing plants for the 1st quarter of 2021 increased by 20.37 percent as the number of heads account from 3,118,915 in the 1st quarter of 2020 to 3,754,390 in the same period of 2021. This yields to a difference of 635,475 increase in the number of heads. This was due to the increase in demand of dressed chicken in the local market and also, the capture of more LRME dressing plants in the province. Livestock slaughtered in slaughterhouses in the province for the first quarter of 2021 was 98,016 heads or 27.06 percent lower than the previous year with 134,372 heads. Slaughtered carabaos contributed a big decrease of 63.67 percent or 433 heads. Meanwhile, the number of cattle and swine slaughtered decreased by 29.99 and 26.63 percent respectively. The Performance Report of Livestock and Poultry presents the performance situation in terms of inventory of carabao, cattle, goat, swine, and by type of chicken and volume of slaughtered/ dressed in the slaughterhouses and poultry dressing plants in the province of Rizal. Moreover, data for this special release were collected by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) through the two (2) major surveys namely: a) The Backyard Livestock and Poultry Survey (BLPS) which is conducted quarterly and covers one(1) of the four (4) replicate samples of the Palay and Corn Production Survey (PCPS) and b) The Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey (CLPS), data collection for swine farms, layer and broiler chicken farms is done quarterly while the semester conduct covers cattle, goat and duck commercial farms. Another survey that supplements the data requirements of the livestock and poultry sector is the Compilation of Data from Slaughterhouses and Poultry Dressing Plants (CDSPDP). This is done monthly and utilized administrative data from Locally Registered Meat Establishments (LRMEs) in the province which is in coordination with the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), Meat Inspectors (MI’s) and the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).
