Special Release FISHERIES SITUATION IN RIZAL 2nd Quarter 2020– 2021 The volume of production in Rizal increased by 31.26% in the Second Quarter of 2021 compared to the volume of production in the Second Quarter of 2020. From 13497.27 metric tons for the Second Quarter 2020, it increases to 17715.9 metric tons in Second Quarter 2021. The volume of fish production is contributed by 2 sub-sectors composed of Inland, and Aquaculture. However, in Rizal, the Commercial and Marine Fisheries survey is not applicable as there are no commercial and marine fishing operations in the province. In the Second Quarter of 2021, Aquaculture got a total share of 70.48 percent while Municipal which only comprises Inland fishing contributed to the 29.52 percent share of the total volume. The volume of production of Municipal fisheries in Rizal is composed only of inland municipal productions. In the Second Quarter of 2021, the total volume of production summed up to 5229.18 metric tons. It increased by 6.83 percent compared to 2020, with Second Quarter production of 4895.05 metric tons. Rizal’s main inland produce of fish and crustaceans increased by 333.39 and 455.59 percent respectively. In contradiction, molluscs production decreased by 73.72 percent. The data gathered during the Quarterly Fisheries Survey on the Second Quarter of 2021 revealed that the Inland Municipal Fisheries Production showed positive growth of 6.83 percent compared to the same quarter of 2020. From 4895.05 metric tons in the second quarter of 2020, it accelerated to 5229.185 metric tons in the second quarter of 2021. The top three species with the highest number of catches in inland municipal for the second quarter of 2021 are the following: Tilapia, Bighead carp, and Snail . As shown in Table C, Tilapia has the highest catch among other species with a production of 1763.93 metric tons, which also shows a positive growth of 564.53 percent compared to the same quarter last year which had a catch of 265.44 metric tons. Second in production is Bighead carp which posted a positive growth of 378.23 percent, from 233.75 metric tons in the second quarter of 2020 to 1117.87 metric tons this second quarter of 2021. Lastly, Snail decreased by 73.49 percent from 3896.87 metric tons to 1033 metric tons. The volume of production on Aquaculture fisheries in Rizal posted a positive growth of 190.31 percent in the Second Quarter of 2021. From 8600.21 metric tons recorded in the Second quarter of 2020, it increased to 24973.44 metric tons in the second quarter of 2021. Further analysis shows that Aquaculture Production by culture type registered both positive and negative growth in the production as compared to the same quarter last year. Rizal’s Freshwater Pen production increased by 47.26 percent, from 8,442.13 metric tons in the previous year to 12,431.76 metric tons in the second quarter 2021. In contrast, Freshwater Fishpond and Freshwater Cage production decreased by 51.67 and 65.72 percent, respectively. Freshwater Fishpond production fell to 0.29 metric tons for the second quarter of this year from 0.6 metric tons in 2020. While Freshwater Cage production also decreased from previous year’s 159.48 metric tons to 54.67 metric tons in the same quarter in 2021. The top three species with the highest number of catches in Aquaculture Fisheries Production for the second quarter of 2021 are the following: Carp, Tilapia, and Milkfish. As shown in Table D, Carp has the highest catch among other species with a production of 9706.06 metric tons, which also shows a positive growth of 353.80 percent compared to the same quarter last year which had a catch of 2138.83 metric tons. Second in production is Tilapia which decreased by 21.83 percent, from 2640.06 metric tons in the second quarter of 2020 to 2063.71 metric tons for the second quarter of 2021. Lastly, Milkfish also seemed to decrease by 81.25 percent from 3822.72 metric tons to 716.76 metric tons.
