The Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) of the region for July 2017 is 62.4 percent which is lower by 0.4 percent compared to July 2016 LFPR. The number of employed persons in July 2017 was estimated at 5.7 million. This translates to an employment rate of 93.0 percent which is higher by 0.6 percent as compared to July 2016. The unemployment rate or the proportion of unemployed persons to the labor force was estimated at 7.0 percent. Underemployment was posted at 14.4 percent, higher by 3.7 percent compared in July 2016. The proportion of underemployed in the region was lower by 1.9 percentage points compared with the national estimate.
