This report presents the Headline Inflation Rate (IR) for all income households in the province of Cavite during the month of May 2025.

Inflation Rate (IR) is the annual rate of change or the year-on-year change of the CPI expressed in percent. Inflation is interpreted in terms of declining purchasing power of money.

The headline inflation rate for the province remains stable at 0.6 percent, the same as in April 2025 (see Table 1 and Figure 1).
Despite no change in the overall inflation rate for the month, the following commodity groups recorded increases in their indices:
• Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages, 1.4 percent to 2.3 percent
• Information and Communication, -0.2 percent to 0.0 percent
• Recreation, Sport and Culture. 0.1 percent to 0.2 percent

For Food, the inflation rate surged from 1.4 percent in April 2025 to 2.3 percent in May 2025, reflecting a 0.9 percentage point increase. This indicates that the prices of food commodities rose in May compared to the previous month (see Table 3).

The increase in the overall food inflation in May 2025 was primarily driven by the sharp increases in the annual growth rates of the following food groups:
• Fish and other seafoods, 2.8 percent to 5.0 percent
• Milk, other dairy products and eggs, 3.0 percent to 6.6 percent
• Oils and fats, 5.0 percent to 5.7 percent

• Sugar, confectionery and desserts, -1.6 percent to -0.4 percent
• Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c., 3.4 percent to 4.2 percent
In contrast, declines in the annual growth rates of the following food groups helped moderate the overall food inflation in Cavite for May 2025:
• Cereals and cereal products, -6.9 percent from -6.4 percent
• Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, 7.0 percent from 9.1 percent
Lastly, Rice experienced a deflation of -11.2 percent in May 2025, slightly lower than the -10.2 percent recorded in March 2025. Inflation for Corn, on the other hand, increased to 12.5 percent from 10.2 percent last May 2025.
