The headline inflation in CALABARZON steadied at 7.1 percent in December 2022, same with the inflation rate recorded in November 2022. This is the highest inflation rate recorded since December 2008. Moreover, it showed a 4.1-percentage points increase over the recorded inflation rate in the same month of 2021 posted at 3.0 percent. The annual average inflation for 2022 of CALABARZON stood at 5.2 percent. (Table A and Figure 1)

The region’s 7.1 inflation rate was brought about by the annual increase in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded at 9.6 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 5.7 percent; and transport at 11.1 percent.
The following commodity groups exhibited higher annual increments compared to November 2022:
- food and non-alcoholic beverages at 9.6 percent
- clothing and footwear at 3.4 percent
- furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 4.3 percent
- recreation, sport and culture at 3.3 percent, and
- restaurants and accommodation services at 5.3 percent.
Meanwhile, annual upticks slowed down as compared to their previous month’s inflation rates in the indices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 11.2 percent, transport at 11.1 percent and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 4.4 percent.
The rest of the commodity groups either retained their previous month’s inflation rates or had zero percent annual growths. (Table B)

For food inflation, it increased by 0.3 percent index point in December 2022, with 10.0 percent inflation compared to its previous month’s record of 9.7 percent. In December 2021, food inflation was lower compared to this year’s inflation, recorded at 0.4 percent. (Table C)
The annual growth rate of the vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses index went up to 38.5 percent during the month, from 31.3 percent in the previous month. In addition, double-digit inflation was also recorded in the index of sugar, confectionery and desserts at 35.3 percent and oils and fats at 17.3 percent.
- Cereals and cereal products, 5.7 percent;
- Milk, other dairy products, and eggs, 9.6 percent; and
- Fruits and nuts, 6.2 percent; and
Meanwhile, food groups that registered deceleration are the following:
- meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals at 5.3 percent;
- fish and other seafood at 5.7 percent;
- oils and fats, 17.3 percent; and
- ready-made food and other food products n.e.c. at 9.1 percent.
Rice index remained at 2.7 percent inflation during the month. While, the corn index had higher annual uptick at 17.5 percent. (Table C)
