Marriage Statistics: May 2019 Quezon (Preliminary Results)

Number of Registered Marriages by Type of Ceremony: Quezon, May and April 2019

Vital registration is a continuous process. Hence there is a need to specify certain cut-off period for purposes of reporting. The Marriage Statistics in Quezon presented in this report contains highlights and summary of statistical tables of marriages that occurred on or before May 2019 and registered within the said month. Events that occurred in May 2019 but were not registered during the month were not included in this publication. For this report, Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) 2011 was used in data encoding. In the generation of DVSS tables however, CSPro 7.1 was utilized.

Number of Marriages…

A total of 1,515 marriages were registered in Quezon in May 2019. It recorded an increase of 57.6 percent from the previous month’s total of 961. The daily average of registered marriages during the month was 49, higher than the recorded daily average of 32 in April.

Marriages by Place of Occurrence…

Tiaong (174 or 11.5 percent) had the highest number of registered marriages. It was followed by Sariaya (124 or 8.2 percent). City of Tayabas (119 or 7.9 percent) and Lucena City (116 or 7.7 percent) recorded the next highest registered marriages. Around 19.5 percent of 41 municipalities/cities in the province registered less than 10 marriage occurrences during the month.

Marriages by Type of Ceremony…

Most of the registered marriages were solemnized under church rites, with 879 or 58.0 percent. Marriages performed under civil ceremonies totaled 538 accounting for 35.5 percent of the total registered marriages.  Marriages celebrated under Muslim rites and tribal rites both registered one marriage event or 0.1 percent . Marriages celebrated under other types of ceremonies comprised only 6.3 percent.2

Marriages by Age Group of Groom and Bride…

The highest recorded number of brides (528 or 34.9 percent) and grooms (591 or 39.0 percent) belonged to age group 25-29 years. There were more teenage brides than grooms in May 2019. Teen brides comprised 118 or 7.8 percent of the total marriages while teen grooms consisted of only 34 or 2.2 percent. Marriages by Previous Marital Status of Groom and Bride… Of the total marriages, majority were first timers or single brides (1,508) and grooms (1,497) prior to the marriage. Only a small percentage of brides and grooms were widow/ widower, divorced and annulled prior to the marriage.
