MONTHLY AGRICULTURAL SITUATION REPORT
October  2019

BATANGAS PROVINCE

  1. CROPS
    • In the municipalities of Bauan, San Pascual and San Luis, harvesting of squash and cassava started.  Meanwhile other plants were still on the vegetables and maturing stage
    • In Barangay Locloc, Bauan, about 400 kilograms of atis was harvested at P35.00 per kilograms.  In addition, in the barangays of Tabangao and Pinamucan in Batangas City, an estimated 150 tons of the same crop was harvested and priced at P20.00.  Produced were brought at Divisoria and Batangas markets.
    •  About nine hectares of yellow corn was harvested in Batangas City with a production of 45.0 tons.
    • In the town of San Luis, the PINAKA Contest (Best Kalabasa) was held last October 28, 2019.  This was held during the town’s Farmers Day celebration.  This event showcased/exhibited and marketed also vegetables like ampalaya, stringbeans, patola and also bagoong products.
    • In barangay Tumaway, Talisay, about 3,500 pieces of banana, saba was harvested with the farm gate price ranged of P1.50 to P1.75 per piece. 
  2. LIVESTOCK  AND POULTRY
    • Farmgate Price of hogs is from P90.00-P85.00 per kilo liveweight at commercial level.  In the municipalities of Bauan and San Pascual slow demand was observed.
  3. FISHERIES
    • Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) announces that closing season for fishing in Balayan Bay for commercial fishing boats will start on November 17, 2019.  This closing season will last for two months.
  4. PRICES AND MARKET SITUATION

Farm gate prices of different commodities per kilogram/pc were as follows:

  1. Squash –P20.00-P 25.00
  2.  Yellow Corn- P13.60
  3. Ampalaya- P 30.00-P35.00
  4. Papaya, green - P 7.00 to P 10.00
  5. Banana, saba- P 1.50-2.00/pc

SIGNIFICANT AGRICULTURAL INFRA-STRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT/ PROGRAMS/ POLICIES/ GOVERNMENT INTERVENTIONS

Awarding of P997,500 worth Four-wheel Drive Tractor & P1 Million worth Packing House from the Department of Agriculture, under High Value Crops Development Program to San Luis Farmers Association, Inc.  This is through the effort/ initiative  of Regional Executive Director Engr. Arnel De Mesa, Regional Technical Director Mr. Dennis Arpia, HVCDP Coordinator Engr. Risa Gruezo, Provincial Agriculturist Engr. Pablito Antonio Balantac, Municipal Mayor Hon. Danilo De Castro Medina, SB Member Hon. Adelio Bonsol, Barangay Captain Hon. Alex Bacani and MAFC Chairman Bitoy Derain.

    • No trainings/ workshop and meeting reported
  2. WEATHER/CLIMATIC CONDITION/Outlook

               Generally, the month was characterized by fair to hot weather condition with cloudy skies and some isolated rains especially in the afternoon.
